Alpaca fiber has much smaller and flatter scales than Merino wool, making them much softer – ideal for people with sensitive skin so for most people, the alpaca feels closer to the silkiness of cashmere than to Merino wool.

In a study done by Gaston College (2009) to test Alpaca’s water repellancy, they found it was almost impossible to saturate alpaca fiber. Which than keeps your feet dry.  Alpaca’s ability to shed water is great if you are outdoors in any type of inclement weather.
